How a carbon footprint is calculated
Every month OVHcloud publishes a report on the greenhouse gas emissions tied to the infrastructure. It adds up three sources, without leaving any out:

Manufacturing
What the construction of the servers and equipment cost in carbon, spread over their entire lifespan. The longer a piece of hardware is used, the lower this share.
Electricity
The energy used to run and cool the machines that host your site, day and night.
Operations
Everything else: maintenance, premises, travel and ancillary activities needed to run the services.
Measure rather than promise
Many players display a green logo without ever giving a figure. We prefer the opposite: relying on a host that genuinely measures and documents its emissions.
